Fall Weddings at Tiburon Golf Club

“Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower.” ~ Albert Camus

Fall Wedding 2018

If you are planning an upcoming wedding, consider having it in the fall. Recently, fall became the most common season to get married in - and for good reason! From the beautiful autumnal colors to the comfortable weather, there are plenty of reasons to get hitched in the fall.  Tiburon Golf Club is the perfect place for your wedding with our newly opened Outdoor Ceremony Site. Here is our guide to planning your fall wedding.

Benefits to a Fall Wedding

  • Weather - Cooler temperatures are more desirable for a wedding. No one likes being sweaty and uncomfortable that a summer wedding might bring. Wearing heavier fabrics will keep you and your guests warm in case of colder weather.  Fall is also less humid than summer and your hair will thank you!
  • Decor Ideas -  Fall offers some of the best foliage with pumpkins, gourds, squash, apples, etc. This opens up so many different options for centerpieces, themes, and overall decor.  Fall also offers beautiful seasonal flowers including marigolds, dahlias, chrysanthemums and more!
  • Theme Ideas - From holidays to football, the fall has plenty of theme ideas. If you have a family full of Nebraska football fans, consider having a football themed wedding.
  • Scheduling - Compared to the summer, people typically have freer schedules. Families take fewer vacations with school starting back up, so they will be more likely to attend your wedding.
  • Food Options - Everyone loves pumpkin spice. Take advantage of this and all of the other seasonal foods such as ciders, pies and more.

Fall Wedding Tips

  • Don’t forget about the shorter days and daylight savings! Be sure to plan your wedding accordingly if you want sunlight! Make sure you get the perfect sunset picture.

How to Involve Your Parents in Wedding Planning

parents wedding

Even before you got engaged, you probably expected that there were countless details to organize and prepare before actually walking down the aisle. We’re confident that you knew that a dress had to be purchased, tuxedos had to be selected, and the attire for your bridal party had to be chosen well in advance of the big day. We’re certain you knew that a venue should be confirmed, a cake must be sampled and purchased, and a seating chart must dictate where your guests will sit during the festivities. But, what you may not have anticipated is something that engaged couples often face. The phrase “too many cooks in the kitchen” is something many brides and grooms encounter during their wedding planning, but in this instance, “cooks” can be defined as the couple's parents.

In their excitement for the celebration ahead, parents of engaged couples often give opinions as to how the day should look. What’s important for a bride and a groom to understand that there is a fine line when it comes to dealing with parents when planning your wedding. It is crucial to not only always be respectful and be appreciative of their valuable advice but to acknowledge that this is your special day.

Here are some impactful ways to involve your parents in your wedding plans:
wedding parents

Choosing the Dress
It’s the dress brides have dreamed about wearing their entire lives: inviting parents to be part of this momentous occasion is a memory for all that is sure to last a lifetime.

Taking Charge of Family Logistics
Give each set of parents the responsibility of ensuring their relations have somewhere to stay and have a reliable way of getting to the venue. It will take a big load off your plate while giving them a vital job to accomplish.

Sharing Their Network
Use your parents’ connections when it comes to planning certain details of the wedding; if your mother-in-law to be knows of a great photographer, have them help you make the introduction! Allowing them to share their contacts with is a great way to both involve them in the planning process but to guarantee the final decision lies with you and your fiance.

Preparing a Speech
These days lots of couples invite both sets of parents to make a speech at the reception, not just the father of the bride. Even if they don’t want to, it’s absolutely the thought that counts.
While there are many joyous moments during the process of planning a wedding, those joys can often be met with overwhelming stress and anxiety. Although some of this comes in the form of the sheer amount of things to get done before the big day, other tensions can arise in the form of the couple’s parents. Involving your parents in certain tasks while making it clear that you and your fiance are handling others is the easiest way to enjoy your engagement as much as possible.

Let Tiburon Golf Club help make your day a memorable one. Our beautiful 27-hole golf course, surrounded by 12-acres of rolling hills and lakes, is the perfect venue for your upcoming event. What To Know Before Joining a Golf League

Joining to golf league

If you want to golf more than you already do, but don’t know how to do that, joining a golf league could be a great option for you. Golf is a very social game, and joining a golf league is a great way to introduce yourself to new people and improve your golf game at the same time. Here are a few things to know before joining your first golf league.

Different Types of Leagues
There are a few different types of leagues out there, which gives you the opportunity to find the right one for you. Here are a few examples:
  • Ladies
  • Men’s
  • Mixed
  • Beginner
  • Couples
  • Juniors
  • Parent Junior
  • Private: these leagues are usually not run and operated by the course or golf club. They are usually set up and run by a league representative who has a relationship with the golf course or club. They typically run between 12-14 players depending on who is running the league.

Cost
There are a few different factors that affect the price of the league. These can include:
  • Quality of course: the quality of the course you’ll be playing at will affect the cost of the league. The better quality course, the more expensive it’ll be to play.
  • End of Year Banquet: if your league puts on an end of year banquet, the cost of playing in the league will probably be more.
  • Carts: some leagues will provide carts, other will not and you’ll have to walk the course. Leagues that choose to use carts will be more in cost.
  • Prizes: some leagues like to have prizes during the span of the league, others have awards at the end. Playing in a league that does something like this will affect how much is costs to play with them.
  • Length: the longer the league goes, the more expensive it’ll be to play.

Signing Up
There are a few different ways you can sign-up to play in a league. One way is to contact your local courses to first see if they have any leagues set up, and second is to see if they have any room. Many leagues fill up fast, so make sure you stay on top of when sign-up for leagues open. Another way to play in a league is to see if there’s one at your place of work. Playing with coworkers is a great way to learn more about them, and can also be a great way to network.

Whether you’re wanting to improve your skills for league golfing or simply looking for a casual 18 to hit every once in awhile, Tiburon Golf Course has what you’re looking for. With three separate courses, our Sips and Tips Clinic for female golfers, and opportunities for lessons, we can ensure you’re league-ready. What to Know When Hosting a Golf Outing

Attending a golf outing for a charity or an organization that you support is always an occasion many look forward to. After all, what’s not to look forward to? It’s a day centered on quality time outdoors, coming together to support a common cause, and of course, playing everyone’s favorite summer game.

Hosting Golf Outing

But HOSTING a golf outing, while still an enjoyable and memorable experience, is an entirely different thing. There are countless details to organize and an endless array of tasks to accomplish. It’s easy to become occasionally overwhelmed and lost, causing planners to not only wonder if they are doing assigned tasks correctly but causing them to question if there are things to be done they aren’t even aware of.

When planning a golf outing, the first thing to do is to take a deep breath. But the second thing to do is know that there are plenty of resources out there that can help you accomplish this. You just need to know where to look and who to ask.

Here are a few things to keep in mind when you host a golf outing.

Finalize a Budget and Speak to Potential Sponsors
Once you establish the dollar amount you have to work with, speak to local businesses about potential sponsorship opportunities for your larger costs. Common ways businesses choose to sponsor include hole patronage, donating their items or services, or even sponsoring the entire tournament.

Hosting a Golf Outing

Assign Tasks Appropriately
Evaluate the team that is working with you and place them in areas that best utilize their strengths.

Give Thought to Tee Times and Scoring
Larger groups should utilize shotgun tee times (where a party starts simultaneously on different parts of the course rather than one group at a time on the first hole). When thinking about scoring, consider the most common format of scoring in golf outings, which is a scramble. This means that everyone in the group hits from the same spots, allowing players to pick the best shot and go from there.

The experience of attending a golf outing is entirely different than the experience of planning and executing a successful golf outing. To say that it is a challenge is an understatement. But with the proper resources and with a helpful team by your side, rest assured that your upcoming golf outing is guaranteed to be a successful and memorable evening for you and your guests.

Tiburon Golf Club would be honored to host your golf outing and assist you wherever you need help most. Our beautiful 27-hole golf course, surrounded by 12-acres of rolling hills and lakes, is the perfect venue for your upcoming event. Whether you are hosting a group of 50 or 250, all of our outings include 18 holes with a cart, range balls, professional services, and $7 per player into a prize fund. To book your outing today, please contact Becky Dickerson, Director of Special Events at 402-896-1323 or Events@tiburongolf.com.

Attending Your First Golf Tournament

Golf Tournaments
Watching your first big professional golf tournament can be exciting, with the roar of the crowds and cheers for the players being heard from every hole on the course. However, figuring out the best way to watch can be complicated. Below you’ll find a few tips on the best way to watch golf at a professional tournament.

Always Come Prepared

It doesn’t matter if the weather forecast says it’ll be sunny all day long, you should always pack an umbrella for those unexpected rain showers (or for some shade from the sun!). You should also pack layers that you can easily put on, such as a raincoat or windbreaker. Always wear comfortable shoes, and if the weather isn’t ideal and part of the course is muddy, consider wearing a pair of rain boots or hiking boots. You won’t always be close to a concession stand, so pack a few snacks and water bottles you can access on the go, especially if attending a tournament in the heat.

Check Out Practice Rounds

You’ll find that the last day of a golf tournament will attract the largest crowds, however, if you’re scheduled to go on a Thursday or Friday, you’re in luck. These days have the smallest crowds and make it easier to watch the players complete their rounds. Some of the best spots to see them are at the driving range or the chipping and putting greens. These are the spots you can really see how the players warm up for their rounds, and if you’re lucky, you can even get an autograph from a few players.

Golf Tournament

Be Strategic

No matter how smartly you plan out your day, there’s going to be a lot of walking at a golf tournament. However, one smart way to plan out your day is to set up in a spot where you can see a green, fairway, and a tee meets, so you won’t need to keep moving spots all day long. Before the tournament starts, find a map of the course or look online at what holes you most want to see and decide what order you’ll visit each hole in.

Golf tournament

Whether you’re new to golf or a seasoned veteran, watching a professional tournament can be an exciting experience. Here at Tiburon Golf Club, we encourage you to continue learning about this great game we love so much and watch a professional tournament the first chance you get.

Find Your Married Treasure

5 Wedding Ceremony Do’s and Don’ts

Wedding Tips

When you think of your wedding, you’re probably most excited to pick out your dress and what kind of cake you’ll be serving to your guests at the reception. But what about the ceremony? It is, after all, the part of the day where you’re actually tying the knot, so plan ahead!

  1. Do: Pick the Right Officiant
For some couples, the person they want to marry them and lead them through the ceremony may be a close friend, or it may be someone from a local church. Either way, you’ll want to be comfortable with this person and know that they’ll be the right fit for your big day. If you have someone in mind, but they aren’t certified or ordained, you can check to see what the specific guidelines are in your state. Marriage Tips
  2. Do: Plan in Extra Time
When it comes to your wedding day, you don’t want to be late to your ceremony. One way you can avoid this is by planning extra time into all the events that happen before the most important part of your day. Ask your hair and makeup professionals, along with your photographer, how much time they’ll need to do their jobs before the ceremony takes place so you can plan out that amount of time.
  3. Do: Have a Backup Plan
While every bride wants her wedding day to go perfectly, unexpected events do happen. If your ceremony is outside, have a backup plan if the weather seems like it won’t cooperate. Ask the venue what options they have, and if there’s a chance it could get cold, make sure you have the option to provide blankets or heat lamps to help keep guests warm.
  4. Don’t: Panic About the Program
There’s no right or wrong way to do your ceremony, so don’t worry too much about the contents of your program. Some couples will want traditions to be incorporated in their ceremony, which could take longer, while other couples will want it short and sweet. Add in everything you want in your ceremony that has a special meaning to you, and don’t panic about the rest.
      Ceremony do's and don'ts
  5. Don’t: Pick Somewhere Far Away from your Reception
Keep the location of your ceremony close to your reception location. This can cut down on extra costs for venue rental, transportation, and even the photography or videography. If your locations are far away from one another, think about providing transportation to the reception for your guests and wedding party.
If you’re looking for the perfect spot for your wedding, give Tiburon Golf Course a call today at 402-895-2688 to get your planning started today!

Fore Father...

Encourage the Love of Golf in your Children

As another spring is (thankfully) on the horizon, there’s only one thing on children’s minds: summer vacation. Plenty of kids are already daydreaming about how they will be spending their time this summer Maybe they imagine endless hours by the pool with their friends. Perhaps they envision taking bike rides to the local ice cream store to find relief from the unbearable heat and humidity. Yes, those are all summer activities that are certainly day-dream worthy. But there is one more event that we firmly encourage children of all ages to get enthusiastic about; practicing their golf game.

Kids Golf

Some kids might say, “Golf is something my dad likes!” or “That’s a boring sport!” But in our totally unbiased opinion, these statements could not be further from the truth. But how do you get your child to understand that golf isn’t just an adult sport? That in fact, golf is a complex and entertaining game that is not only exciting, but requires a great deal of skill and precision?

Here are a few ways to encourage children’s enthusiasm for golf this summer season:

Remind them Golf is Fun
Everyone’s favorite part of the summer season is having the opportunity to spend the entire day outdoors; so, teach your children that being on the golf course for nine or eighteen holes is the perfect day to take in the sunshine and be outside. Not only that, but it’s important to emphasize that golf is a game that perfectly marries skill, precision and fun in a supportive environment.

Family Golfing

Make it a Family Affair
There is no better time than the summer season than to pack up the car with your golf clubs and gather your children on a Saturday morning. You’ll create memories with them that will surely last a lifetime and will create a unique nostalgia for the sport.

Emphasize that Practice makes Perfect
Keeping a child active in the sport when they first take it up and encouraging frequent
practice will certainly keep them interested in golf.

Teaching kids to golf

If your child has an interest in golf, there is the perfect outlet for them to explore this passion all summer long. Tiburon Golf Club is proud to offer Junior Golf Camps for children of all ages throughout the summer season. Choose between sessions in June, July, or August for your children ages 6-13 at just $85 a session. Space is limited for this extraordinary opportunity, so reserve your spot and foster your child’s love of golf today. Register on our website or call 402-895-2688 today.
