When you think about the winter season, what immediately comes to mind? Perhaps you envision the holiday season, gathered around the Christmas tree surrounded by your loved ones. You may even imagine a picturesque snowfall, covering the fall leaves with a blanket of white. But what might not immediately spring to mind is improving your golf game. After all, golf is a spring and summer played, best enjoyed in the warm sunshine during mild temperatures, right? Not necessarily. The most experienced golfers never stop thinking about their golf game, and do whatever it takes to enhance their skills, no matter what time of year it is.
This can also be said for the best golf courses around—winter is not a time for rest and relaxation. Golf courses like ours take a number of steps during this frigid time of year to keep our holes in the best possible shape.
Here are just a few of the projects golf courses like ours will be working on this season to maintain a quality course for valued golfers like you:
We Get Rid of Snow
It’s no secret that we’re going to be seeing plenty of snow on the ground this season. But that’s not an excuse to stop taking care of our greens. It is generally required that at least one person at a golf course like ours is necessary to be kept on call for clearing snow during these upcoming months of unpredictable weather. This includes plowing our roads, parking lots, shoveling walkways, and applying de-icing agents.
The Greens Get Covered
It’s best that during the winter season that greens are carefully covered with items like tarps, synthetic covers, heavy sand, or even straw to protect them from significant weather damage. This will be our top priority this winter season.
We Clean up the Landscape
Snow, rain, wind, and ice cleanup across our property will happen on a frequent basis until the springtime. We’ll be taking on a number of projects, including removing damaged tree branches, discarding accumulations of leaves and soil, or any other surprises Mother Nature leaves for us. Once those items are removed, we’ll focus on remulching the landscaping and flowerbeds to give our course the pristine feel our golfers know and love.
Winter is the time for chestnuts roasting on an open fire and when the weather outside is frightful. But it’s also that outstanding maintenance is required on the best golf courses to get our area in exceptional shape for spring.
