5 Wedding Ceremony Do’s and Don’ts
When you think of your wedding, you’re probably most excited to pick out your dress and what kind of cake you’ll be serving to your guests at the reception. But what about the ceremony? It is, after all, the part of the day where you’re actually tying the knot, so plan ahead!
- Do: Pick the Right Officiant
For some couples, the person they want to marry them and lead them through the ceremony may be a close friend, or it may be someone from a local church. Either way, you’ll want to be comfortable with this person and know that they’ll be the right fit for your big day. If you have someone in mind, but they aren’t certified or ordained, you can check to see what the specific guidelines are in your state. - Do: Plan in Extra Time
When it comes to your wedding day, you don’t want to be late to your ceremony. One way you can avoid this is by planning extra time into all the events that happen before the most important part of your day. Ask your hair and makeup professionals, along with your photographer, how much time they’ll need to do their jobs before the ceremony takes place so you can plan out that amount of time. - Do: Have a Backup Plan
While every bride wants her wedding day to go perfectly, unexpected events do happen. If your ceremony is outside, have a backup plan if the weather seems like it won’t cooperate. Ask the venue what options they have, and if there’s a chance it could get cold, make sure you have the option to provide blankets or heat lamps to help keep guests warm. - Don’t: Panic About the Program
There’s no right or wrong way to do your ceremony, so don’t worry too much about the contents of your program. Some couples will want traditions to be incorporated in their ceremony, which could take longer, while other couples will want it short and sweet. Add in everything you want in your ceremony that has a special meaning to you, and don’t panic about the rest.
- Don’t: Pick Somewhere Far Away from your Reception
Keep the location of your ceremony close to your reception location. This can cut down on extra costs for venue rental, transportation, and even the photography or videography. If your locations are far away from one another, think about providing transportation to the reception for your guests and wedding party.
